Dancing lights
across the
dark morning sky
like little girls
twirling in green
and yellow skirts
giggling happily.

Laura Dennis lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She has been published in the anthology Home and Away from House of Blue Skies.  She also a
self-published chapbook entitled Wheels on the Bus.

READING BIOGRAPHIES by Lori Powell

A life told straight
is a fearsome thing,
a needle compassed,
magnet-charged
to sudden borders,
shadow-plagued,
its footprints
filling with snow,
its mapless
birds
darting,
dancing,
gone.

Lori Powell teaches ESL to children and adults in the Washington, DC area but is plotting to live elsewhere, preferably someplace with sea breezes.  She is the author of one chapbook, Truth and Lies, published by Black Buzzard Press, and has published poems in a variety of journals.

TRUE NORTH by Robert Vaughan

When the sky spits on my crown,

this guy laughs, says whoever deemed life is given.

The racetrack we watch launches killer ants and

 I cannot bear violence

If you sleep through one more turn, I might wake

to scream against the broken window.

Help is on its way in the form of one giant

 cock who, as weathervane,

 points true north.

Robert’s fiction and poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in: Short, Fast & Deadly, 50 to 1, Heavy Bear, Girls with Insurance, and Tryst. He is a fiction editor at jmww magazine and a flash fiction editor at Thunderclap! Press.  His blog is at http://rgv7735.wordpress.com.

THIRD POSTCARD FROM IRAQ by Sandy Benitez

The moon above Baghdad
floats lazily atop a veil
of smoky-grey clouds. Pigeons
sitting on the streetlamps
blend in effortlessly,
shaking another day
of black dust
from their feathers.

They have no desire to fly
in any direction
or converse with a stoic moon.
Natives to the dirty sand,
both have seen the color of death,
both wish they were colorblind.

Sandy Sue Benitez's poetry has been published in over 100 print and online journals.  Her poems have recently appeared in Hanging Moss Journal, Poem2Day, and Victorian Violet Press.
